What is colostrum?

Beestings: nature’s very first food

Colostrum is the first milk that mammals produce immediately after giving birth. In cattle, it has traditionally been called beestings. It differs clearly from ordinary milk: it is thicker, more yellow and naturally contains considerably more protein, immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and growth factors. After a few days, the cow switches to normal milk.

Our colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle in Estonia and is only collected once the calf has been fed. It is then gently freeze-dried and filled into capsules without additives. This keeps the first milk in its natural composition, conveniently portioned and neutral in taste.

Information about Colostrum Supplement Capsules – Organic Bovine Colostrum, Grass-Fed

About the product

Colostrum has been valued as a special natural product for generations. It is not a formula put together in a lab, but exactly the composition nature intended for the start of life. Our colostrum supplement contains pure bovine colostrum from grass-fed organic cattle, freeze-dried and encapsulated in beef gelatine. Whether you are looking for colostrum capsules, colostrum tablets or beestings: it is always the same product.

What is in bovine colostrum? The natural components of first milk

  • Immunoglobulins: Colostrum is naturally rich in immunoglobulins, i.e. antibodies, above all IgG. For the calf, they are a central part of its first nourishment in the first days of life.
  • Lactoferrin: An iron-binding milk protein that occurs in colostrum in a much higher concentration than in mature milk.
  • Growth factors: Colostrum contains natural growth factors that the calf receives for its development in its first days.
  • Proteins and other components: On top of that come milk proteins, amino acids and the natural vitamins and minerals of milk.

All these components are present in colostrum in their natural combination. We do not isolate anything and we do not add anything.

Colostrum, beestings, first milk: one milk, many names

Colostrum is the Latin technical term. On British farms, the first milk has traditionally been called beestings, and in technical language it is also known as colostral milk. All these names mean the same thing: the cow’s first milk after the calf is born.

Fairly sourced: the calf comes first

Animal welfare comes first for us when it comes to sourcing. We only use the surplus colostrum that is left over after the newborn calf has been fed. So the calf always gets what it needs first. Only then is the remaining first milk processed.

Why freeze-dried?

Many colostrum powders are spray-dried, i.e. with hot air. We rely on freeze-drying instead: the water is removed from the colostrum at very low temperatures, without heating it. This largely preserves the delicate proteins and natural components. The result is a fine, shelf-stable powder that we fill straight into capsules.

Grass-fed colostrum from organic pasture farming

Our bovine colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle in Estonia, kept under organic standards. Each capsule contains only freeze-dried colostrum, with no anti-caking agents, fillers, preservatives or flavourings. The capsule shell is made of beef gelatine. As an EU organic product, the colostrum is subject to regular quality controls, and we also have it tested in the lab (see “Lab analyses & certificates”).

Who are colostrum capsules for?

Colostrum capsules are for anyone who prefers an original animal-based whole food to isolated single substances. Many people make colostrum a fixed part of their daily routine, whether around sport, in an active everyday life or as part of a nose-to-tail diet. As colostrum is a dairy product, it is not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy or for a vegan diet.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is colostrum?

Colostrum, also called beestings or first milk, is the first milk that mammals produce in the first hours after giving birth. It is richer than normal milk and naturally contains immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and growth factors. Our colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle.

Is beestings the same as colostrum?

Yes. Beestings is the traditional British farm term for colostrum. Colostrum, beestings and first milk all mean the cow’s first milk after the calf is born.

What are colostrum capsules made of?

Pure freeze-dried bovine colostrum from grass-fed organic cattle. The capsule shell is made of beef gelatine. No carriers, no fillers, no flavourings.

How and when should I take colostrum?

Take 6 capsules a day, spread over the day with meals and not on an empty stomach. A tub of 180 capsules therefore lasts 30 days. Please do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Where does your bovine colostrum come from, and does the calf get enough?

Our colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle in Estonia. We only use the surplus colostrum that is left over after the calf has been fed. The calf is always fed first.

Does colostrum contain lactose?

Yes. As a natural dairy product, colostrum contains milk components, including lactose. The product is not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy.

Is colostrum suitable for vegetarians or vegans?

No. Colostrum is an animal-based natural product, and the capsule shell is made of beef gelatine.

How should I store colostrum capsules?

Keep the tub closed, dry and at no more than room temperature, out of the reach of children.
